Roland Barthes - Semiology [FISH TANK]

The Theory portrayed by Roland Barthes Leads us to believe that each situation in the film has a Signifier, a Signified and a Sign. This theory can be seen in Fish Tank, One example of this is the scene where she finds a horse, the chained up horse is set to symbolize her and how she is trapped by being poor.
Signifier - Chained up Horse.
Signified - Chained down like she is in society.
Sign - Poverty has put them both in this position. They cannot escape.
