We have chosen to look at the scene where Mia tries to set the horse free.
Signifier: Mia and the horse
Signified: The horse is innocent in a helpless situation when it should be wild and free.
Semiology: Mia and the horse both feel helpless and they don't have much of a life. Mia becomes quite attached to the horse.
Sign: Show's that Mia cares about the horse even though it appears that she doesn't care about anyone. She makes numerous attempts to save it and set if free. She feels sorry for it and maybe feels that its her job to set the horse free as no one else knows it is there and the owners don't care about the welfare of the horse.
