Alfie - Relationships

Relationships - In the scene between Alfie and Annie, the first one we see shows a good relationship typical of 1960s culture in which the women is doing the cleaning and the man is going out to do work. But obviously, Annie doesn't know this isn't exactly a job she would approve of. Marcuse refers to how mass media gives a false representation of culture in the time it is set and hence makes us believe that if we were a passive audience, we'd believe that it would be standard for the husband to go out and work by the means of sleeping with other women. In response to Althusser's notion of interpellation allows us to recognise Annie's role as a traditional female role in the household set in 1960s.

Also, to refer to Stryker's discipline, we can term Annie as the typical housewife. Plus in relation to Althusser's notion, then Annie would probably identify with this role.
